Why finding a supportive tribe is not as hard as you think
At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, you may have noticed like I did, that buzzwords took on a whole new dimension. ““Unprecedented times”, “stick together” and “let’s Zoom” were just a few phrases that saw a serious uptick in everyday conversation, between colleagues and in the media. Some were true, others were just fluff words.
Sticking together is not what I saw many of the entrepreneurs and small business owners do in times of upheaval and stress. It was all out war in some industries and I decided, enough was enough. We really need honest support, practical advice and training and systems to move us forward and up through the pandemic and there-after.
Why you need a tribe
Your environment and your tribe play a critical role in propelling you forward. “You’re the average of the five people you spend most of your time with,” is not new to us, but it’s common for us to underestimate the importance of the company we keep. Bottom line? Your crew matters.
When it comes to your business and your work, when you surround yourself with growth-minded individuals, you can more often, and easily tap into abundance thinking.
Be challenged: Co-founders, mentors, colleagues, family or friends will challenge you and make you better, raising your average and keeping you up there. If you're always the smartest person, that’s great, but you're actually diminishing yourself. You want to surround yourself with people who can run circles around you in many arenas, people who are exponentially better in a variety of ways - you can learn from them, and continually up your own ante.
Be taught: If your best teacher was your last mistake, then let your teacher be your tribe’s mistakes. Imagine preventing potential roadblocks simply because you can learn from other’s mistakes who are in the same industry as you? Tribes expand by learning from each other so you can prevent tripping up on the same things they did. This kind of learning drives success much more quickly for you, and will save you a lot of time.
Be accountable: An accountability tribe keeps you on task and on route to achieving your goals. Just like you would help others stay on track, your accountability tribes will also be excellent sounding boards, help you overcome challenges and awaken you to new perspectives about the road ahead. These growth-minded individuals will keep you aligned with solution-orientated thinking complete with actionable solutions. Sounds like a dream? Your tribe will help you expand on your successes and will - yes - celebrate them with you.
Finding your tribe:
Look to others who are doing what you want to do
This isn’t copying, this is using them as guides, mentors or just good examples of where you want to be. Find out what they’re doing and find out what courses they offer or recommend. More often than not, courses are supplemented with group support. This is a huge win because you’re learning and continue to learn through the group.
Get offline
In this age of digital connection, we often overlook the value of in-person relationships. While the digital age allows us to be part of global tribes and provides the convenience of joining tribes online, there's something special about connecting face-to-face. Meeting people in the physical world offers a unique level of depth and connection that the digital realm can't fully replicate. It's an opportunity to forge genuine, meaningful relationships that go beyond the screen. In-person interactions are a reminder that quality connections can't always be replaced by the convenience of digital interactions.
Follow the leader
A good tribe will have a standout tribe leader who will manage the tribe fairly for everyone. They’ll make sure help is available and help you with networking. A good tribe leader will keep empowerment and growth front and center for every tribe member giving value every step of the way.
There wasn’t anything like Achievher at the time the pandemic began to rage, so I decided to create the change I wanted to see in the world. Something focused on the UAE and GCC, something practical, something that knew what was going on on the ground and could see ⅔ steps ahead to what women in this part of the world need to succeed.
Achievher is a group of like minded women striving for success in our personal and professional lives. We couldn’t find the tribe we wanted, so we created it!
